I am trying to get bigger flames, so I have been told to remove the TB dashpot. The TB dashpot controls the air mixing with the fuel, correct? If you remove the dashpot will the car more likely die when you let off the throtle? Will I have to raise the idel? Can removing the dashpot cause damage to anything? any help is appreciated

 

the dashpot keeps the throttle plates from slamming shut.
i have never asked, but what is the advantage to losing the dashpot? (flames are not considered an advantage)

 

If you want bigger flames then buy a kit. If you want to run around throwing fire get some pipe extensions or bye bye bumper.

 

I don't want to buy a flame kit, I want big natural flames. I have giant N1 tips and the stick out a bit. I think the bumper will be ok as long as I only do it in motion and keep a good coat of wax on the bumper.

 

You have been misinformed. Don't mess with the EFI and other systems to try to get flames. You'll just mess things up.

NZConvertible, What will I mess up? From what I understand all the TB Dashpot is just a adjustable shock used to control the speed of the rev-down through the throtle by adjusting how fast the intake closes. So if I remove it all I would be doing is cutting off new air form mixing with the gas that is currently in the engine, causing a rush of gas to go through the exhaust when I suddenly let off of the throtle. Am I wrong? why?

 

Removing the dashpot will not make flames!

 

this is exactly right. this way the gas will only cumbust when it gets to the air at the end of your tailpipe. nz just cant admit that it serves no real function unless you consider slowing rev-down useful?

 

That's all the dashpot does, Andrew. It's purely mechanical. It won't inadvertently cause any decel flames. On my TB jobs, I remove the dashpots all of the time without any ill effects whatsoever.

I know exactly what it does, which is why I removed mine. I also know removing it doesn't cause flames...

 

sure it wont CAUSE flames but it does help a little if you already have them
