thinking of buying a FC

Gas mileage? HA! It's reliable if you treat it nice. GTUs you say?

if you want reliable you might want to look into a different car. most 7's have problems that occur a little too often for my liking. woulnt trade my car for any other

An RX-7 can be a safe and reliable car if you find the right one. Just look at the FAQ at the top of the page, there is a section on buying an FC. Good luck!

i dont doubt that at all! honda has its goals set for the civic..lower models.. (all the 17 yr olds by me dont understand those goals) as a good daily car, economical and practical. That doesnt work for me i need a fun sports car, i love to drive and when the car loves to drive back i wont mind driving 12 hrs a month!

IMHO choose whether you want a fun sports car or a reliable ride, because they don't often come in the same package.

I have had my 87 na since 92, put 170,000 miles on it, with a total of 230,000 now. Rebuilt it at 198,000 and that was the only standing failure I had where it was towed. I drive it daily 70 miles and get 20 mpg and would do better but I like accelleration! Only my old 74 Capri was more reliable.

Here here , very true Joe.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=289032

I posted a super long reply about deciding whether or not you really want to buy a '7 in this guys thread. The second one has actual indentation if you scroll down a little further. These car's are worth it, but reliable depends on the way you treat it and if you are responsible enough to do little things to ensure it's long life. You will need to regularly do oil changes, spark plug changes, fluid changes, etc. as you would with any other car, and replace parts that will die eventually. Good luck with your decision.

7s are a very fun car to drive but i really wouldnt reccomend you getting you if you plan to be putting that many miles in one month on a continuly. try and get something more realiable. 7 are getting (in some cases are) old and many issues will arise. i really would recomend something like a civic or something else in that class of car. they are about as reliable as you can get.

When I think reliable, not too expensive sports car, I think MKI MR2.

I have seen SOOOO many of those with insanely high miles (almost all of them high abuse (I know the drivers)) and they keep on chugging along. That 4AGE engine amazes me. A low miles MKIII Supra will be reliable, however, if anything ever breaks, parts, and working on that car, are a killer.

The N/A RX-7 is reliable (at least the ones with the manual transmission), compared to most sports cars. When stuff goes wrong its usually very cheep to fix and these cars are INSANELY easy to work on. ...And then one day an apex seal pops and you limp home.

The old Datsun Z cars were also somewhat reliable, discounting insane amounts of rust. When things do go wrong they are cheep to fix.

VW Sports cars are mostly reliable (Especailly those with the 20v designed engine!) (Steer clear of the VR6! Bad VR6!) Of course, as with all VWs, you can pick up a really bad one from the factory where EVERYTHING goes wrong with it. Old VWs are medium-to-cheep to fix, new ones are somewhat expensive.

If you just want the sports car look and dont want the speed or handling, and want all the reliability and the cheepest parts of all, look no farther then a 1966 Mustang with the invincable inline-6 200cid(3.3L) engine :-p Huzza for 94HP@4400RPM! (Oh, but does it have torque!)

I have an 87 base model, Its been great but things go bad and need replacing, but once replaced, youll have no probelms. Although I keep telling myself if I own my car for a few more years, it will be brand new again.

My RX-7 also made a trip from seattle WA to springfield Va flawlessy. I guess I'm lucky my car hasnt broke like crazy yet. Just get one someone took car of and serviced properly, and you shouldnt have many problems.

The FC is pretty reliable. You could get an old 240SX, Supra, or an MR2.
