i am doing the conversion in the spring. i have an 86 na rx gxl. you will need to do more than just a swap tho... you will need downpipe, frontmount IC, good idea to get new tranny, and if you can find one a turbo rear dif. the car will most likely not produce gear snapping torque but it is good to have all bases covered to save more work and $$$ in the long run. i am going to an rx specialist who does it all: ported jdm turbo (rebuilt), new tranny, downpipe, front mount IC, blow off, and a microtech standalone, plus any other little things that they might catch on the way. the only missing thing is the dif, but htey are increasingly hard to come by.

As far as I understand the conversion will eliminate the domino effect of mechanical problems that usually arise in these older rx's. i have seen a converted car already and the engine bay is incredibly clean, with all the unneccesary parts removed. a wise move if you have the cash. some might argue that buying a TII is cheaper and wiser, but in my opinion buying a TII is just delaying the inevitable anyways--- the rebuild will happen, just when?

now if this isnt the 293rd post on this topic this year...
maybe we will break 300 by christmas

it has been discussed before. it is impossible. the additional torque from the turbo motor on the na chassis will bend it, esp when you start off in 1st gear.
not only that, the additional current needed to run the turbo motor would require a flux capiciator on the na chassis, which is an expensive upgrade.

I would start in the FAQ sticky, it has the answers you need.

i beg to differ. ... the shop i go to it has been done... many many times to many many different happy clients. i have 2 very close friends who did the conversion last year, have been driving the **** out of their rx and never had any problems.

There are certain failsafes you need to address though to ensure things like frame bending and gear snapping wont happen. like torque bars front and rear, new tranny to name a few. to say it is "impossible" is just plain old retarded.

aswell, you were going to drop a 350 in your rx?!?!? that is cardinal sin my friend. the rx is such a wonderful and unique car to drive because of the rotary engine, and to take out the very heart of the car and replace it with a piston engine defeats the whole purpose of owning an rx.

they are definatley worth every cent you will put into your rx. they are incredibaly fun to drive, fast as an NA, even faster if you convert to turbo, and handle like dreams. plus, even though there have been a small line of consecutive problems with my car, the engine has never given me trouble, and is 100% reliable.

i recommend doing the conversion, you will not be sorry. just make sure your mechanicknows what he is doing. where abouts are you located? i am sure a few people can point you in the right direction here at this forum.

If you read slpin's post, you can tell hes not being serious. The flux capacitor comment is a dead giveaway.
If he reads the FAQ sticky it has all the info he needs.

Sideways7, will you marry me?
Icemark, can you actually get those labels added to the appropriate threads?

Sorry, I'm already taken.
Also, I wasn't the one who made up that pic, it was actually My5a5baby, I think.

Sorry, My5ABaby.
Also, why the hell won't it let me edit my posts? It hasn't even been a minute.
