thinking about buying old rx7

so it's a 87 TII manual

a lot of people around my house are saying it's not worth it since it seems to have been in a wreck hints the hood and front bumper

but it's only 1,000 dollars and it runs

what could possibly be fucked up from a wreck in the front it doesn't seem to look too bad , but from a light crash to the front end what could get messed up?

any1 know where to get a aftermarket wiring harness for it too my dad who works at geico said i'm going to need one of those so it doesn't catch on fire(not sure how that'd happen)

Tip #1: Inspect the car very carefully- inside and out. Make sure it starts well from hot as well as cold.

Tip #2: Don't let your dad work on the car.

Aftermarket wiring harness? A standalone ECU and harness will cost you more than the whole car. It's not going to catch on fire from a shorted wire (if there even are any).

It looks like the bumper has been cutout for a front mount intercooler, so I'd guess the owner modified it fairly extensively. You need some engine bay pics to really be able to tell. Read up on compression testing and watch out for a hack job under the hood.

let me give you some advice. stay away from that car. for starters, running an open turbo is BAD BAD news. secondly, it looks like the wiring had been tangled in a fan and spliced by a child. the word idiocy comes to mind....it looks to me that some anus face just bolted a turbo on a non turbo 13B and threw in a TII ecu and injectors..not wise at all. for your own sake, find another car. this one is more trouble than its worth.

A TII from my experience will not be $1,000 unless there is something seriously wrong with it. Or it was indeed a swap.

I got my 88 SE for under $1,000, and it's NA...

Some of the low end TII's I've seen have been around 2-2.5k or so, so 1k I'd be suspicious of. Good luck.

That thing is a bucket. I would offer him $700 and then just beat the living hell out of it.. Then part it out when I blew the engine....

Not a bad strategy, you could probably make money on it.

Yeah...

Turbo is worth about $150
Injectors $120
Ecu $100
Wiring harness- $100
manifold- $150
MAF/AFM- $50
fuel pump- $50
Hood if in decent shape- $150-200
Then scrap out the good engine bits, interior, and sell the body for $400 or so... I would buy it and just drive it till it blew up...

That is a 6 port/turbo swap, very fun to drive...

The biggest thing I see is, make sure that it's safe to drive. Check the lights, the dash lights (mine don't work, can't drive it past 9pm because I can't read how fast I'm going, or pressure, or gas... )

etc etc etc, if it's all good - then yeah I'd say buy it, beat it to all hell, and part it out. TII engine components you could probably get a lot for.

by way of that video, the car doesnt look like it would even drive down the street.

starting up in the driveway doesn't always mean it'll run decent enough to drive and boost without blowing up...

Actually there are not many, you REALLY have to look for a good condition car OR be LOADED with $$$.

RX7's are real pricy around here AND hard to come by, so it is not easy to find a good car.
