Thing between Rad and oil cooler

what is between the radiator and oil cooler? tranny cooler? looks like it goes to the oil cooler but I can't really tell. couldn't find it in the haynes or the FSM. car is a 88 gxl 5spd.

i assume it hinders flow too?

hmmm one more reason to remove it

It only hinders about as much as a radiator. I'd remove it if you dont want or use your AC.
