thermal pellet
i've searched here and the net and can't seem to find what i'm looking for. there's a site somewhere that has a pic of a cutaway veiw of the e-shaft when explaining the thermal pellet and how it works, and i'm not able to find it. hopefully someone in this section knows what i'm talking about. i'm already aware of the writeup on the fc3s.org site about the washers. this friend of mine has his idea on the reason for shimming the thermal pellet back towards the engine. he thinks it's to make the washer on the end seal off that 1/4" hole inside the shaft. if this is so, then how does everything behind the front cover like the oil pump chain and such get lubricated with oil? i need to show him this cutaway of the e-shaft to make sure his idea of this, and the option we chose, is correct before i start driving this thing begining in May.

there is a smaller hole further along the e shaft just above the spacer that oils the needle bearings e tc. The bigger hole you talk about is to bypass the oil back into the front cover, thus not lubricating the rotors when cold, when the oil is hot the pin in the end of the pellet pushes the pellet further into the shaft blocking the bigger hole thus forcing the oil into the rotors. I dont think you can push it too far down the shaft to block the smaller hole.

Go to the link that has WOMBAT in it ,and download the LUBRICATION section for a picture and description of the eccentric shaft lubrication.

thanx hailers, first 2 links no worky. the training manual has the cutaway view so it looks like the fat part of the pellet is what seals the oil from the front cover, not the little washer. i took and machined a piece of delrin(like nylon but harder) and put it in place of the little spring behind that little washer so it would stay against the 1/4" hole inside the shaft, blocking it off. but it's actually the body of the pellet sliding back to block off the 2 holes in the side of the shaft. maybe what i did WONT work.

Ah shucks. The first two links don't work. Oh well. But the other two work and that'll do.
Throw that bypass valve in a pot of boiling water. It'll get longer when the thing heats up. Getting longer means the fwd end will rest against the inside of the eccentric shaft bolt, and since it get longer as it heats up, eventually the aft end of the valve assy will plug that hole inside the eccentric shaft.
When it's not hot, it's shorter and oil can flow to the Jets in the eccentric shaft that spray oil on the rotors themselves.
Something like that.

I took the second link and cut off some of the end of it. This guy Knight seems to have varied interests but especially RX cars. I flailed through it and came up with:
http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/cars.html
http://wombat.sevarg.net/RX7/RX-7_Training_Manuals/
http://www.cochran-racing.com/FSM/index.html
That shows a link to the manuals for various models of RX.

The DIAGRAM is in the link that has WOMBAT in it. It's not much of a download for the Fuel and Emissions section. It's only maybe twenty four pages long. See picture. Run picture, run.
