Is there other alternator options other than FD's for our FC's?
Is there other alternator options other than FD's for our FC's?
I know a FD alt will go in with a few mods, but what about other MAZDA Alt's or even from another company? Im thinking of looking around a junckyard and comparing, but before I do so...was wondering if anyone has something other than the FC or FD alt.

I am working on a single-wire GM conversion. The size of the older 100-150amp GM alternators is only slightly larger than the OEM. The distance between the two bolt holes is under 1" larger.
I think with a custom bracket for adjusting the tension, I am going to be able to bolt on a 120amp GM single-wire without problems.
I will keep you posted and may sell the kits in the future

I will get the GM number off the alternator tonight when I am in the shop.
The only reason I am considering doing this is because of my heavy power draw from my stereo. Plus, I have an old GM alternator laying around.....so why not rebuild it for the same price as an FD or maybe less with my discount at the local parts store.
100+ amp for the same price as a 100amp FD alt.

Basically... an altenator is an altenator... if its got a two wire connector and a post it will most likely work.. but you have to make sure that its the right amperage, an internal voltage regulator and change the connector over on the wiring harness.
ZKeller is using some 200 amp MONSTER GM altenator on this car.. he had to fab up a shim so that the belt was alligned, and mod the bracket a bit... but all that took less than 1/2 an hour!!!!!! If my FD alt goes, I'm getting the same one he has. (but it was like 200+ bucks as well)

hey capn, the setup you have, what work do you have to do to get it in?
The reason Im not going with the FD alt is its only 10 more amps over the S5 and usually cost about $100. I want to be cost effective and get more for my buck. So if I can get a GM alt that is bolt-in or near bolt-in...thats my pick.

and you can make ANY alternator work with ANY setup its not that hard

Check out West Tex RX-7's FC. He Is running 5 amps total that are putting out approximately 2000 watts rms! He Is doing this with a FD Alternator I sold him.
