When you shut the doors, everything flexes. If the seals wear out, it leaks sooner. On a coupe, nothing flexes, so the seals don't have to be as-new for everything to seal. Coupe's doors DO leak eventually... it just takes longer because of the lower tolerances needed.

If the top didn't flex, like a hard top wouldn't, I would imagine the seals on the door frames would seal TONS better.

You could also have a bigger rear window.... with defroster (I can't remember if the verts had defrosters in theirs)
You haven't ever spent any time around an RX7 vert, have you? I could describe it to you but really you have in your mind other convertibles you have seen.

You really should check it out so you know that most of the things you think a hard top would cure are already cured on the 7 vert. It doesn't have a tube frame. It doesn't flex. It does have a hard, insulated top with an interior padded headliner. It doesn't flap. It does have a glass rear window with defroster grid. It is quiet with the top up. Mine seals nicely from the rain and doesn't leak.

I personally think the 7 vert would be ideal for your climate. Kind of like the hard top that you want, but one that doesn't have to be removed and stored for the season.

It really is unique.

Those are two very different cars.

Having commuted for a while 50+ miles one way with a buddy that had a Miata, I fully understand why a person would want a hard top for Miata. That is an unpleasant car to drive in traffic with the top up or down. The car is not suitable for daily driving in my opinion. It needs a hard top. It is mostly a toy car for weekend zipping around, some people race them and rag them.

The S2000 has an available hard top, but I have never seen one on the road. They may be more popular in snow country. I have driven S2000's some. My son has a friend with one and we kicked it around a little. A couple of years later, my wife got the hots for an S2000. We test drove one at every Honda dealer in the Dallas Metroplex. I bet we drove 100+ miles, top up and down. S2000 is a very civilized car with top up or down. It has a glass rear window. I personally see no need for a hard top on the S2000. I remember that Car and Driver tested an S2000 with the hardtop, aluminum if I remember correctly. They were very negative and claimed that the car was noisier with the hard top than with the soft top. I am pretty sure that it had to do with the top being aluminum, rather than fiberglass.

Considering how nice the S2000 is with the factory soft top, I would be pretty surprised if there were very many with hard tops actually out on the road.

i have a vert myself and i wouldnt buy a hard top if they made it. what would be the point. Your sill leak...... go spend $50 and buy new door sills. just what every vert needs more weight......... seems senceless to me and would be ugly, move to houston and just leave the top down.... lol. and jackhild is right it is almost a hard top as it is. minus the ripping issues on the rear half. damn it even has a headliner............

Yeah I don't know many people who aren't happy with their vert the way it is, but I have to say I wouldn't mind seeing a hard top for the vert incase you didnt wanna spend the 1000$ bucks for a new one or spend the 10 days and countless problems replacing it yourself, it would be a nice alternative to have.
