Question Is there a correct adjustment for the throttle stop screw??

The reason why iam asking...i did something stupid when i first had my rx7 i messed with both of the primary and secondary throttle stop screws....iv'e always wondered if i screwed something up. How i adjusted them was i warmed engine up till fast idle cam released and then set both screws so that both primary and secondary plates are fully closed when at rest on stop screws....then i adjusted tps sensor....Does anyone know anything about where the plates should be at rest????

Yes. Look in the Fuel section of the free online FSM. I THINK the primary is supposed to be cracked approx 0.016" or there abouts.

I remember seeing it in either the FSM or my Haynes manual. I think the primary throttle plate is supposed to be slightly open and the secondaries closed, but I may be wrong. I do know that it gives a number as to how large the gap should be.

There is no info in the FSM about the primary throttle stop screw. Only the thermowax and fast idle screws are shown.

yea...thats all i see too....it just thought logically that u would have to have a completely closed primary throttle plate in order to have a consistant idle....does this make sense????

I've been shot down again. Yes indeedy. It's the Fast Idle Cam Screw that adjusts the primary throttle plate to 0.4-0.5 mm or (0.016 - 0.020 in). Sorry 'bout that. No stop screw adjustments noted in the FSM. I'd adjust the plates as described.....and if the stop screw gets in the way of the adjustment.....screw it out of the way.

I just looked at a old n/a throttle body that still had the goop covering the stop screw. If the fast idle cam is lifted off the roller, and the primary throttle plate is allowed to go fully closed, the stop screw is just touching the linkage. So I guess the answer is YES, the throttle plate should be completly closed and the stop screw just resting against the linkage.

Sure is hard to find a throttle body with the stop screw not fiddled with.

EDIT: I know of no written procedure for setting it. There probably is somewhere.

Got me. My guess is that it's there to keep the throttle plate from jamming shut/sticking shut/jamming/keeps it from going to the point where it starts opening again?????
