Is there any problem with a generic $40 brake master cylinder?

Well, my master cylinder is leaking. I'm inclined to blame it on my bleeding practices (pedal to floor, seals on rough parts of cylinder, fluid leaks).

The local parts store has a master cylinder for $40 that looks the same. The rebuild kit from Mazdatrix is $70, and a new master cylinder is $140 or so.

Is there any significant difference between these? Will I have problems later on if I go with the cheaper local one? I'm planning to get this car track-ready, so if there will be some sort of difference, I'll go with the rebuild kit or such.

I don't know about the parts you might buy, but remember its america, it's usually you get what you pay for.

The parts store replacement will work fine.

Failure comes when moisture absorbs into the fluid & rusts the cylinder bores.
The trick is to fully bleed the brake fluid when you change pads.
Then you will never need another brake master.

Bought my master cylinder from a local parts store, cost a little more the $40, but has a lifetime warranty; so i'm not worried.

When I look it up on my E.P.C. at work, it lists too many options for the N/A. ABS, AAS, and the range of vin numbers are different enough to list 12 or so master cylinders. The good thing is, these supercede to only four numbers (and these four common ones are rebuilt units from the factory).

I don't mean to be long-winded, but here are the options:
1.) N/A, with ABS
2.) Turbo, with ABS
3.) N/A, with AAS but without ABS
4.) N/A, without AAS or ABS

I hope this helps! Didn't mean to get too technical, but you can see that there are differences between them.

I put a Reman from Autozone on my car. That was about 5 or 6 years ago and it is still working fine. I used to only wantOEM but sometimes money didn't allow it. Now it depends on the part on where I get it. I'd say you'll be fine.

While were on this subject, I think I need a new master cylinder for my newly aquired 90 GXL. When I called my local parts store, they listed the same part number for all non-ABS FCs, reguardless of whether or not it has the 4-piston or single piston fronts. Can that be correct?

You have a slave cylinder in your braking system?

I'd be cautious, especially on the brake master cylinder. Atleast get the tokico one,.
