testing mass air flow

i just swapped the engine out of my 88 n/a with one from an 88 vert cus i blew two apex seals. the engine started after a little cranking and ran well two days but the next morning, it wouldnt turn over. i checked the plugs and replaced them and also had to replace my mass air flow meter because my friend messed up the plug when he was taking it out (i still dont know how someone can mess something up when it's just a plug).

in any case, it seems like the engine still isnt getting enough air even though i just replaced the mass air flow sensor with a used unit that only had 42k miles on it. i was just wondering what the easiest way is to test the sensor and also see if anyone had some other things that i could try to get the car running. thanks in advance.

Where in DC are you? I have a known good unit we can swap on just to test it.

Though, I think that the MAFS is not your problem. Usually with a bad MAFS, the car will start, then die.

I'm right by Key bridge if you know Georgetown. I don't think it's the mass air anymore. Very often the car won't start and I have to push start it. Once it starts running though, it drives fairly well but it feels like I'm losing a considerable amount of power, especially in the high end. If you would be willing to take a look, we can meet somewhere and see what's going on. If not, it's no big deal. I'll just take my car down to rotary performance and see what they can do with it. Let me know. email: intro_kz @ hotmail.com cell: 703.220.5912.

Quickest way to test it is from the ECU pin that the AFM signal runs to. Test for voltage, to ground. I'm doing this from memory, but I believe you should have about 5v key on, 4v at idle, and lower than 4v during cruise. Can't remember the ECU pin # off the top of my head, but do a search, or look in the FSM, section 4A (for the 86-88 NA's)...
