Test drove 87 T2 no oil pressure gauge?

Hey guys, I test drove a 87 T2 yesterday and the guy has a rebuilt from Mazda engine and he says that the oil pressure gauge has not worked since then? (3 years) Its tough to make an offer on a car without any oil pressure to read at all. Any idea's what might have happened? Is the fix somewhat simple?
Thanks for any imput.

most of the time, the ground capacitor is off on the back of the tranny.

I had a rebuild done on my old NA. The pressure gauge didnt work afterwards. it always showed a false reading. Three months later, the engine dropped a side seal while the new owner was driving it.

soooooooooo moral of the story... find out the oil pressure. You never know whether its giving a false or accurate reading.

There is a wire that tends to come off the sending unit on the drivers side of the engine. The sending unit looks like a mushroom and is located near the rear of the engine. Look to see if there is a wire connected to it. Its a pretty simple fix.

could be wire... happened to me a couple of months ago after doing some work on the engine, they might have forgotten to hook up the wire to the sending unit after the rebuild..
as 1FastT2 said the sending unit is near the back of the engine and looks like a mushroom, just some more help
it's to the bottom left of the oil filter not more then 5" away at the most, the wire has a flat hook up which slides sideways onto the very tip of the sending unit..
if it's been off this long you might wanna clean off the tip of the sending unit..

let us know if works

Thanks guys! I did look at the sending unit and it looks to be fine with no wires just hanging or anything?

The gauge dosn't show any reading whatso ever...Is there a single fuse for that gauge perhaps? Thanks again!

Oh, is the readings for the oil pressure taken through the oil sending unit? I will take a closer look at that area when I see it again. Thanks again guys.

Take the connector off the sender unit and sand the contact surfaces. If it still doesnt work take the sender unit out and make sure there is no sealant tape on the threads. I havent looked at the diagram, but if memory serves me right the sender sends a ground signal to the gauge. And that tape would ruin the senders ground.
