Temperature gauge

k... mine goes up just a bit over halfway. Is this normal? I know the stock gauge isnt exactly error-free... but what are some of your readings? Pics @ operating temperature perhaps?

well S4 cars are supposed to go up about 1/4 to 1/3 of the guage and S5 cars about 1/2 of the guage as far as I know. I am reading high right now though so I am in the procces of getting the dual alt pully on my car all I need is some one with air tools to help me out.

If you are running higher than before , check what is causing it than slapping an alt. pulley. It's not going to make it run cooler . It helps for cars running without an air pump since you'll be running only 1 belt versus 2.
If it's running higher than normal at cruising speed, you should have the system checked.

mine stays a little below half.
I hear that s5 temp guages are worth absolutely nothing.

I'm thinking the gauge is a bag of ****. I've done EVERYTHING to the system to return it to stock. Tested fan clutch... installed new thermostat... did two flushes... coolant is squeaky clean... tried 50/50 and 30-70... Sometimes it shows i'm running right in the middle, other times a little higher. NO PATTERN. Doesnt matter if its a cold, hot day... humid, non humid... highway, street or idle. DOESNT FREAKIN MATTER!! it just shows whatever the hell it wants.

I couldnt believe how inaccurate the stock boost gauge is... So I think it's time to invest in a temp gauge.
BOOOOO i'm running out of cash!!! someone buy my parts t2!!!

I am reading all theses posts of where the temp would show on a stock guage, but what about actuall temps. Is anyone running a aftermarket temp guage, I want some numbers to compare.

Running 185 to 190 on a turboii, seventy miles per hour, interstate. After market mechanical gauge temporarily installed. Mazda thermostat from Mazdatrix. I don't know the the thermostat rating.
New radiator.

I've another truboii that runs a bit cooler than this one. Old radiator. Swapping thermostats makes no difference b/t the two.

After a spirited drive, dropped by mechanic's shop, used his infrared temp gauge on the thermostat housing, and the rad. Thermostat housing showed 170*F, rad showed 162*F at the top, couldnt reach the bottom. Oil cooler showed 155F or so...

Good numbers?

Fingers go to egauges.com for a cheap water temp. VDO makes a few different styles of gauges. They arent as pretty as blitz, greddy, hks etc but they work well. Ill take a 40$ VDO gauge over a 200$ gauge from greddy Unless someone else is paying for it

dr0x, the autometer gauge that i want is only $40usd from summit racing... but what i'm going to do is buy an el-cheapo Equus gauge from Princess Auto (come in a pack of three... one voltage, one oil pressure, one coolant temp, $30 CAN), and sell the two that I don't need on ebay. Hopefully that'll get me enough dough to buy a proper gauge LOL

Mine 88 na s4/s5 hybrid runs 3/4 to 4/5 to the top of the inner bracket. Swapped out the stock for an aftermarket and sensor and it runs 190-195 at 70 mph in 5th and 200-205 in 4th. Around town it's at 190. Cna't figure out why it runs so hot. I have a 180 degree thermo.

You need to look at the whole cooling system. The bottom pan and top shrouds are important to pulling air through the radiators instead of around it which won't do jack. The top (between nose and radiator) keeps air from being going over the radiator.
If you are running hot, check thermostat ,water pump and if there is air in the system. You need to purge all air in it to properly cool. You can't have hot spots.
Change coolant if you never did it. Some people I know *NEVER* do. If you gauge goes over 3/4, you had better check things out before you overheat. 3/4 is way too hot. From what I saw on my gauge, 3/4 is about 270 deg.
