Temp Gauge Prob. !!!!!

i got a 89 turbo 2 and tonight i was driving my car (not hard 50 mph in 4th) and the temp gauge droped like there was no power ... but every so often it would "jump" not to the temp just a little ficker PLZ HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!
