Arrow Telling the difference between tii lsd's

How can i tell the difference between a s4 clutch type lsd and a s5 viscous type lsd by looking at them? Also is there a different fluid for each? Specifically by redline?

No fluid in viscous, if I remember right. As for the type, I'd be interested in how to find that out as well. Maybe a number on the unit itself or something?

All iddf shave fluid, i think the viscous doesnt need an additive because the lsd part si sealed or sumtin. But im nowhere near sure.

they do sound a bit different, but you have to know what you're listening for.......
they also might be labeled differently, but I've never paid attention......
If you still don't know, you could always open it up and look.....
Generally speaking, newer is better when talking about most anything.....so if you don't already have one I'd go with viscous....or if you want the best (without changing too much) you could always buy a KAAZ for around $700-800(that requires Kaaz additive tho)....

I am being a smart ***.

It seems the same old questions get asked over and over. Yours is unique..........and interesting.

The 39 issues is a take off from that old joke about the Jail house inmates that have been in jail so long that there are no new jokes......they've numbered the jokes and rather than soembody telling a long drawn out rehashed joke, they just yell out a number and everybody chuckles........'cept the noobs

OIC, well that sure makes it a pain in the butt.......
Okay, Well if the shop knew what they were doing then it should be viscous, since an 89' GXL is an s5, but the two types are interchangable (as long as you swap the whole rear-end) and the s4 clutch type is cheaper and more abundant, so it could also be the clutch type......
If i'm not mistaken one of them was labeled as an LSD on the casing while the other was not ( I'm not sure which is which tho.....but I thing the S4 clutch type is the labeled one, but don't quote me on that)
Sorry, but that's about all I know.....looks like this query might need a guru of some sort

if the shop knew what they were doing, that 89 gxl would be a 1 leg fire
