tear in my vert top anyway to fix it??

I just bought an 88 vert and I have a little rip in the top. It doesn't go down to the padding but the rip is an eye sore. I went to a vert guy in town and he said i need to buy a new top because there was nothing I could do to repair that. I don't believe it. Does anybody else have any suggestions on how to repair this?
Thanks in adavance.

I saw a commercial for this stuff that repairs vinyl and leather and the like, it's a liquid you put on it and you rub it in to "fix" it. Of course it was one of those " And you get all this for only $19.95! " commercials so I don't know how well it works.

I did a post not more than 3 months ago about a satisfactory repair technique.
Search it under my user name.
Good luck!
