TB Mod?What do ya think??
I've got an S5 TII that I just pulled the intake to swap the secondaries for 720cc to go with my Rtek 1.7,and I was thinking about the TB mob,but I've been reading mixed feelings about it.Just wondering what you all think(pros/cons) about it?It's my daily driver with a 3" no cat exhaust, ported wastegate, hks evc 4 boost controller,fd fuel pump,FMIC,and I just bought a Devils own meth kit but no yet installed.Thanx Chad

i just make sure the throttle plates actually open, and call it good.
i'm old but i like it when the car cold idles

Too old for this
I pulled the extra choke plates and ported out the inside but left on the thermowax and most everything else. I had fun doing it, but I doubt it made any difference.

needs a decent aftermarket ECU with custom throttle pump settings to make it work without a lean ****** and pop when you flair throttle
best left well alone for standardish setups
for myself i use a reverse principle,, i retain the throttle delays
,, seeking out early TB's that have the vac pot delay that is usually hooked through a pneumatic thermo switch to hold them out when cold
using a custom vacuum arrangement i get these throttle delays to work much like vacuum secondary's in the nikki carb
- they will hold out until load,, or boost,, then drive open to the same setting the primary blade is at
this allows boost only secondary operation and maximise airspeeds through the primary throttle until the port is restrictive and allows boost to build
why-- maximum TQ for light throttles

^I ported/shaved mine just like that thread, and i followed the fc3spro instructions
http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TBM/tbm.html
Note though that it may make the car a bitch to start. Having to play with throttle position when you crank it. Actually looks like your car is broken lol. Im not sure which part of the mod resulted in that, always figured it was probably consequence of one or another.

The benefits of the TB mod come from removing the secondary throttle plates/linkage and filling in the holes they leave, allowing air to more easily flow through the throttle body. This DOES NOT AFFECT STARTING OR IDLING. What it will affect is throttle response and may have a slightly adverse affect when you slam the throttle opened or closed.
The only thing that will affect starting/idle quality (other than vac leaks resulting from a half-*** mod) is removing the thermowax and this HAS NO BENEFIT WHATSOEVER for airflow or throttle response. The only reason people remove it is because they are lazy and don't want to reconnect it when they remove/install the intake manifold.
Cliffnotes
If you are having trouble starting/idling:
1) Fix your vac leaks
2) Put your thermowax back on
3) Reinstall your BAC (or get it working)
4) Stop spreading misinformation
