TB Mod

Ok guys, I took my TB off because I had to replace the coolant hose underneath the upper intake manifold. Should I do the TB mod? What are the pros and cons? Do I gain performance doing this even though mine is an N/A? Need your opinion guys before I put it back. Thanks.

One more thing, If I remove the BAC valve, would I still pass emmision?

I also wanted to know what's gonna happen to the two vacuum hoses that are connected to the water thermo valve? What are these for anyway?

Cool

What the throttle body mod does is remove the front set of throttle plates from the throttle body, so the intake flows better. However, in the process you lose your fast idle system. So you trade horsepower for a loss of drivability on a cold engine. I have not actually done the mod, so I don't know how much horsepower gain you would get.

I see no reason why you would not pass emissions with the BAC removed. However, you would have to increase your idle speed to avoid stalling when the load changes - your stock ECU has no way to increase the idle in those situations.

The one coming from the throttle body fitting will need to be plugged, the other one thrown away. What this does is provide vacuum to a dashpot that keeps the secondary throttle plate (the one you will remove) from opening too quickly on a cold engine.

Hope this helps.

Irv is correct. The mod is not difficult. The biggest drawback is on cold starts. You will need to use your "foot" regulator to maintain a 1000–1500 rpm idle until the car is warmed up—about 1 minute will do. On the plus side, IMMEDIATE throttle response and I'm sure, a slight increase in HP.
