I have about five grand to spend for an engine. Any suggestions on a good foundation to start with.

the 20b has been on my mind. my only concern is the effect the added weight has on the suspension.
i guess i should do some more research on it.

20B project is going to cost alot of money, and If you ever wan't to sell the car you probably won't get what it's worth.

Cosmo engine $ 2300
Turbo T-o4 $ 500
Wastegate $ 300
Manifold $ 300
Microtech/Haltech $ 1000

These numbers are off the top of my head, but I think they're close enough.

20B all they way, but look at reted's writeup at http://fc3spro.com/ --you're looking at about 15 grand. He does list many other swaps too, it's a great site. On the other hand, i saw a FD in Florida on ebay for about 800$--it's a writeoff but has a fresh rebuild. and twin turbo.

Money is not really a concern right now. I have sold many cars with alot more money in them than they are worth but thats just the way it is.
I dont plan on getting rid of this car for quite a while.
I will be selling my motorcycle for about 12 grand.
So its between either a two or three rotor Cosmo.
Havent decided just yet...

Id spend the money on an S5 Turbo block with proper parts to be built

then use left over $ towards standalone, fuel system stuff, exhaust and a hybrid of if enogh is left with a completly new turbo

I've spent close to $10k doing a normal 13BT swap into my 'vert, but that includes brand new suspension, a lot of body work and new parts from Mazda to replace broken ones, a full front clip, and a variety of very good quality reliability measures such as a lot of gauges, an SAFC-II (maybe will go Haltech later), and upgraded fuel pump, etc... plus the tools to do it (probably $1500 in tools alone).

I don't skimp when I buy parts, I buy good ones, usually new from Mazda or aftermarket upgrades where it makes sense. So I haven't gone the cheap route, by any means, but I want to get this car to a very good level of reliability and performance, where it will last me a very good, long, time and be hella fun in the process.
