Taking care of rust

Okay, so I have tiny rust spots ( I think they are just surface rust) that came from paint chipping, then the rust setting in. I want to know how to take care of this...and I also have some surface rust in my gutted interior. How do you go about removing these rusts the most effective and cheap, while also preventing new rust from setting in?
Thanks.

Rust on what? Body panels?

The cheap route is sand paper and some primer spray paint. The best route is to get it resprayed professionally.

If you just want to stop it from rusting any further, get a wire wheel on the end of a drill, hit the spot with the wheel till the metal is shiny agqin and spray some primer over it. It won't be pretty, but it will stop more rust from forming.

POR-15
Try the Silver one. It has metal filler.
Also brush it all over your undercarriage.

Hmm, I think I will go to a professional body shop and take care of it. Thanks.

I like the wire wheel approach. If you physically remove the rust, it can't spread under your coating. POR-15 has a decent rep, but I've heard that sometimes it fails to convert all the rust, then you have a hidden problem. Primer is the FIRST step after removing the rust. Primers are hydroscopic, meaning they absorb water from the air. If you don't want the rust coming back, you MUST apply paint over the primer.
