Takes forever to start sometimes!

I was having some fuel pump issues a while ago so I replaced it and the fuel problem went away. HOWEVER; during the time I was having those problems, a strange new problem poped up.

I used to be able to turn the car on with a flick of the wrist, and the engine would spin to life.

Now, it sometimes about ten to fifteen seconds of cranking. Other times it starts right up.

Warm, cold, doesnt matter.

Any ideas?

Are your injectors leaking? When it starts right up was the car running shortly before you started it? Was it sitting over night? Was the engine hot? Cold? (Wasn't sure if you meant air was hot or cold or engine was hot or cold.)

I ment, it doesnt matter if the engine is hot or if it is cold. If it was sitting, or if I had been running it.

How do I check for leaking injectors?

Hook up an inline pressure gauge immidiately after the secondary rail on the return line and see if the pressure holds for 30 minutes.

I believe sometimes when your car is starting to lose compression or if the compression is low it makes startup take a lot longer. Might want to run a quick compression check just to be sure.

OK! I got the following lined up:

1) Compression test
2) Fuel rail pressure check
3) Check the thermosensor

How do you check the thermosensor?

Thanks everyone

(Prays its the thermosensor)

first thing I'd do is get your battery checked at autozone or something. It can make it really hard to start. I had similar problems got the battery changed and as soon as I changed it it started great.
