Tach shows 1,500 RPM when it's suppose to be at 3,000RPM

I been having a reoccuring problem with my tach showing 1,500 RPM lower than it should. Now it is constantly doing this and I was just wondering if anybody had any advice on where to start troubleshooting with this.

I hear the "ignitor" is the verdict but I have yet to check it. I also have a extra coil pack for the trailing ignition so I might swap that out and see if anything changes.

Also, whenever I go over ruff terrian (torn up assfault at around 40 or 50 MPH) the tach jumps between a 1,500RPM increment, meaning where it should be and where it resides.

Thanks

So whats it showing when you idle? 300rpm?

Either way, the trailing ignition holds your factory RPM signal output. Swap the trailing pack and see what you get.

Earlier I swapped the trailing coil pack and that fixed the problem. Turns out for some reason there was a wierd blueish-greenish corrosion where the spark plug wires connect to the coil. Wierd.

Thanks for your help.

Grab a tube of dielectric grease and pack the coil terminal with it to prevent said corrosion from happening to the new pack.
