Tach is behind

Well I tried searching and couldn't really come to a definative awnser .

My tach is behind . By how much i'm not sure . At idle its at or around 0 . Then when I rev it it follows pretty normal as it should . It just seems to be behind . The shift buzzer comes on at like 5500 RPM .

Sometimes it will be just plain dead and not work too . Then after it sets . I get in and it works as it did before just behind .

I'm really wondering what the problem is . I'm afraid i'm going to screw up my motor not knowing when to shift and don't feel like putting a Super Tach or some ricey tach in .

If anyone can help I would appreciate it .

Thanks

I believe the tach gets its signal from the trailing coil. Check the connection to make sure it's not loose or dirty.
