Which is heavier a na hood or a tII hood?

I have both a TII aluminum and a NA aluminum hood in my room right now. Holding both hoods on the scale shows the TII hood is 28Lbs and the NA hood is 24lbs.

This is in no way exact, but it does show the NA hoods are a bit lighter (as one might expect since they are the same hood minus the double sheetmetal of the duct.)

That is the weight Mazda published for a 86-88 non- turbo 5 speed 2 seater. From 86-88, Mazda did not give weights for the various models/option packages. Starting in 89, Mazda gave the weights of the actual models.

So, you know that the Mazda published weight of an 89 GXL is 2880 lbs and you know that an 89-91 weighs about 100 lbs more than an 86-88 with the same equipment. Then assume that the 2625 weight Mazda gave was for a base model with 14" wheels, no options, no PS, no A/C, no sunroof and maybe even an aluminum hood. Then add all the GXL features and its not hard to come up with a curb weight around 2780 - 2800lbs.

Interesting how Mazda decided to start weighing the 7's options In 89. Based on your breakdown, I can see how you came up with the final weight for the GXL, or atleast a close curb weight.
