Question T2 turbo duration

under good driving, (ie. not winter driven, let turbo cool down, ect) how many k is the stock turbo good for w/ no rebuild on a 87 t2

I got just over 100k on mine... a bit of oil in the IC though. still pulls hard at 10psi

In mine, the exhaust side housing was cracked, at just 100K km. Also the exhaust turbine was cracked pretty badly (almost all the blades were chipped) too.

Had to rebuild it, and replace the exhaust manifold (cracked too). Probably due to the heat...

make sure you have an oil breather, oil gunk gets pushed through the seals, I had to rebuild the seals cuz previous owner wasn't running one and had tons of smoke out the exaust

how much money will I be looking to spend on a turbo rebuild and a new manifold?

$200.00 for the manifold from MComp if you are a member and you can rebuild the turbo yourself for about $125.00.

PS. As far as I know the turbo in my car has 223K miles on it. The PO may have replaced it at some point but he did not mention it when I bought it.
