T2 swap into S4 na vert questions
T2 swap into S4 na vert questions
I just have a few questions on the t2 swap for NAs
I have a 1988 NA s4 vert
After doing some reading and whatnot around the fourms I know I need at least these for the swap.
AFM
BOOST SENSOR Turbo ECU n332 or n333Turbo 2 Transmission
Turbo throttle cable
fuel pump or assembly?
T2 engine (OFC)
T2 type to na driveshaft
So now onto the questions,
First question. I see that people are saying that just modding the NA harness is easier than dropping in the t2 harness but i don't really understand what they are modding, i see people saying to swap out the power steering connector for the knock sensor but I dont have any power steering in my vert the PS lines are cut and everything is disconnected so will that effect anything? And is there any other connectors other than that. I know there's a few but I cannot remember the others.
for second question, when people say you need a T2 fuel pump are they just talking the pump itself or the entire assembly and wiring as well.
for third question, i have a FD alt with the gee spec harness adapter for the NA and the grem kit, will this work on the T2 engine or will i need to go back to stock pulleys and alternator.
and for final question is there any other major supporting mods i will most likely need, i know clutch is a major thing but are bushings, subframe mounts or other things like that a issue i should keep in the back of my head?
And if i missed anything please let me know. this is the first time I'm doing anything to this extent, and if you have any pics or vids of a swap i will he very thankful. and last I'm pretty sure I've been through most of the write ups, but I'm sure I've missed some random post from 2008 that has every last bit of information I need and if you have that post please again send it my way.

I did this on an S5 non- vert I can answer a couple of the questions.
Fuel pump? Walbro 255 will work. New one t2 fuel pumps rare and expensive, I wouldn't get a used one. The existing assembly is fine you may have to add a segment of fuel hose and cut the stock connection to fuel pump. Seems to be typical with these new walbro kits.
Supporting mods? You need T2 driveshaft (obviously a T2 trans), differential (88 had a non viscous LSD that some people like more for rebuild capabilities), T2 half shafts to do the job right. Top mount intercooler? T2 hood.if you want to get really detailed, appropriate T2 brake caliper setup in the rear (I think the NA GXL model had same brakes as T2). And yes since you're replacing the differential make sure to just do the mounts while you're here. I think they only sell the stiffer mazdaspeed spec ones nowadays so pure OEM may not be available. Your AFM setup you'll need to figure out how you'd like your intake. You can use a stock turbo inlet duct to the turbo but you'll have to do something different. Decide if you want a blow off valve or stock system... BOV dumps metered air so the engine will run rich periodically .
Cruise control can come out, or you can swap computers and actuators to keep it on the turbo.
Harness I opted for OEM to save myself chasing down wires, I'd recommend getting new fuel injector plugs for it as those get very brittle (pigtails sold at various online stores). Remember if you get higher flow exhaust you may need a fuel cut defender.

The main thing i was worried about was just wiring and whatnot as I haven't got a clue on electrical systems everything mechanical for the swap seems like a breeze but the harness is the real butterfly's in stomach starter.

i just did one of these and i don't really recall, but there are some differences between the routing of different things.
the one i did, we ended up with no alternator wires, cause that is different.
so its just easier to use the one you have, and maybe extend a few wires
and yeah i think most people just change the fuel pump

I'm rewiring and s5 turbo harness right now. Whenever I have a harness issue I go to this thread https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...rness-1153410/
Might be some similarities on plugs where at the least you can find the replacements. I also use it to help chase down where some wires splice since the wiring diagram makes my head hurt.
