T2 smokes very bad out of exhaust! kinda long

i got my car done finally and have been driving it for about 300 miles with no probs, i had my turbo rebuilt and i was at a stop light and all of a sudden my car starts blowing alot of white oil smoke out of my exhaust, i mean ALOT! i did notice a small amount of oil dripping out the bottom of the turbo and hitting the maifold before any kind of smoke came out my exhaust . So i pull the turbo and sure enough there is oil inside the exhaust housing and you can see where the oil is leaking out the housing itself. i put the turbo off my j-spec on, and it is doing the same thing. it smokes very little when driving but when at idle, OH MY GOSH does it smoke, im talking my whole neighborhood gets clouded, but then i drove it about 5 miles and was not smoking while driving until i came to idle, then i drove another 15 min of easy driving then it stoped smoking completely even at idle. someone please help. thanx in advance, Nick.

On the bright side at least the smoke is coming out of the exhaust and not the engine bay...

not that i've ever had an fc that did that to me.... *cough...*

sounds like a side seal let go.

don't be fooled by oil in the exhaust port of the turbo, oil going through the engine has to go through the turbo to get out. after one of its fits, pull the leading plugs and check them for oil, if they have fresh oil on them fear the worst unless it is coming in through the inlet side of the turbo, could also be an oil injector blown out, but i don't think that is a common occurrence.

hey guys thanks for replying. No shaft play on either turbo's, the one i took off has maybe 400 miles or so, and the turbo on the car now is fine. the oil is only in one side of the divided exhaust housing of the rebuilt turbo. Oil pressure is good any time the car is running. Iwill pull the plugs tomorrow to see if there is oil on them. keep the replys coming guys thanx.

First, pull the intercooler hoses - do you see lots of oil inside the pipes / hoses?
if you do, the turbo compressor carbon seal let go.

Second, pull the spark plugs - is it crusty and oily?
If so, the oil control o-rings are bad.
Do the high idle test - 20 seconds at 3k to 4k RPM.
If it smokes, this confirms oil contol o-rings.

Third, uncap the oil filler cap and drive around CAREFULLY.
Does it still smoke?
If the smoke goes away, your "PCV" system isn't working correctly.
The "crankcase" is getting pressure, and you need to relieve that pressure.
The oil is bypassing the piston compression ring in the turbine section.

Who did the rebuild???

I had this same problem after I did the rats nest about a month ago. Been driving it like a girl trying to not smoke so badly. Then I read this thread and saw what ted posted. I pulled off my oil filler cap and BAM!!! NO MORE SMOKE!!!! Ted, you are the MAN!!! I guess i capped off the crankcase ventilation. Have you tried removing your oil cap yet?

where is the crankcase ventilation? i get alot smoke to due to the new rebuilt i guess, i have to start it up longer this time, but i get alot of smoke, i do have oil on my spark plugs because i inject them into my lower spark plug holes, is it becuase i injected them there that i get a whole lot of oil spitting out the exhaust? ill check my intercooler piping to see if theres oil

The crankcase ventilation that I plugged was at the base of the oil fill neck where it meets the intermediate iron. It sticks out from the iron and points towards the rear of the car.
