"T2 Redo" Head to toe Pics inside.

My brother in law is restoring a 1988 T2 for his Senior Project in High School. He ordered a j-spec today from www.osakajdmmotors.com after shipping and removal from the truck at his door the motor ended up costing $1000. Not bad for Motor, Tranny, turbo, all accesories and downpipe, along with an uncut wiring harness....

Anyways he is painting the car black with my help and the car was originally white so... We stripped the car down to the bare frame sandblasted and wirebrushed the whole thing and now we are going to re-install everything when the motor arrives on monday.

Here are a few pics of the progress, I plan to do the same thing to my Convertable this summer...

BTW that is bed liner in the engine bay... It is sweet!

Not bad for a 17 year old... Kid and car are both born in 1988... Anyway I will post more pictures as he progresses....

Awesome stuff, I would recomend to rebuild the motor . As I was at osaka 2 months ago and nothing really looked worthy. Hopefully they got more stuff in from since I got there.

yall have fun with that restore project! I first started out restoring my 88TII and then it quickly became a major street race type thing with no real stock stuff left anyways if you guys are looking for some almost perfect condition grey leather tII seats let me know as I'm looking to get some racing seats. Good luck with the project.

This is the 3rd motor we've ordered from them, they seem to be pretty good.

Let us know when you get the engine + tranny. Osaka motors doesnt specify S4 or S5. Let us know about how they handle their customers too!

I really wish I could do this for my senior project... Damn 20 minute presentation instead. I'm going to do it on alternative fuel sorces though . Looks good so far. I thought of doing a couple pieces under the hood with bedliner. Never thought of the whole engine bay though :P. Hope to see some update pics every once in a while.

I was just going to mention that...
Unless you're going to heat shield the chassis or wrap everything up, I think that stuff would burn and smoulder.

Well it should not as I have that under my car and it has not changed at all with the Full RB streetport exahust. THe motor does not get as hot as the exhaust so I would say he should be ok, unless he gets some crazy under the hood temps for some reason.

I've seen it done on several musclecars, it holds up very well. I mean paint stays on.....

I think it will be fine, I'll post results though, who knows...

I've done the bedliner on a couple of bodies with no issues at all. Holds up to the heat on my 12a-bp. I get carried away and do everything that doesn't get body paint, all of the underbody, fenderwells, engine bay and fuel tank, good stuff.

I did find a little peeling on my Z where I didn't get the surface prepped properly. I usually sandblast, make sure all rust is removed, acid etch primer, an epoxy coat, then the liner.

Keep up the good work, it will last many years with proper surface prep. I like how easy it is to clean up, plus being grease and chemical resistant.

Restoring a car for a "Senior Project?"

The closest thing I had to a "Senior Project" was a ten page paper on the Vietnam war.

What class is this supposed to be for? It looks like great fun but way expensive for a HS project.

The way our high school did it (he goes to the same school I graduated from 6 years ago) is you write a 10 page paper on something related to something of interest to you and most likely your carreer in the future. You also have to make a powerpoint presentation a 5 minute video and do 20+ hours of work related to your topic as well as interviews and what not. At the end you also do an 18 minute presentation where you show off what you accomplished and you must bring in a guest speaker. That way it can help you prepare for your future, he is planning on attending a school to dyno-tune/ computer map performance cars so it was right up his alley..

I watched a video last night about 3 kids that took an “86” Chevy Nova and made it into a Radio Controlled car for their Senior Project. It was pretty cool brakes, throttle & steering. I wonder what grade they got.
I'll try to find it.
It was on the Google video search engine.

found it:
