Physically yes, but...

You will need to change the 89-91 front cover so that it supports the mechanical OMP of the series 4 motors, as well as there are some electrical harness issues.

If you use the s5 ecu you cant use your s4 gauges and all that ****. If you use the s4, you have to swap the front cover on the engine and i believe intake manifolds. But yeah it will bolt right in the exact same. There are probably a bunch of small issues you may have to address like sensors and what not.

if you plan on doing a S5 into a S4, just use the s4 wire harness most sensors are the same however switch over those that dont plug up, and use the s4 injectors, front cover with OMP, TB, coolant necks, water pump, and altenator..

my 87 T2 has an 89 j-spec. i did all the swap stuff. the actual block itself is the same. but the OMP is different(swap front cover), TPS is different(i swapped upper and lower intake manifolds but heard you could just swap throttle bodies), when you swap the front cover the 89+ alt and water pump wont fit anymore so that has to go back to 87-88. i dunno about P/S, my car doesnt have it. if i can remember more ill list it here.
