T04r -> 13b-re

Hey guys,

Im in the process of dropping a 13B-RE into my FC right now.

Im currently looking for a turbo setup that will work well with the stock 13B-RE as well as after I get the chance to rebuild it and port it.

What im looking at right now is a T04R or GT35R.

What I intend to use this car for? Currently, mostly street with track (road racing) days here and there and eventually make it strictly a track car. I'm not too concerned with power numbers right now as I dont intend to completely push the engine until I get it rebuilt and ported. But when I do (in a couple months), Im looking for 350-400bhp.

Oh yeah, I got a Haltech E8 and fuel upgrades are in the works.

What can I expect from either of those turbos? Are there any other suggestions?

Thank you!
Jon

T04-R is a wild turbo, will reach your 350 goal at or around 10psi. Top end is fun

GT35R will be slightly more responsive (many things dicate response though) and less top end, but will hit 400whp at or around 15psi.

Airflow
35R=65lbs/min T04R=72lb/min

Hrm, just took a shower and did a little more thinking.

I would like to have more power than what i previously stated. =)

Maybe closer to the 400-475 mark

But the most important thing to me is response and lag because I intend to do road racing. What will get me boosted by atleast 4k rpm?

Im reading books on reading compressor maps and turbo sizing, but my mind isnt here. Too much drinking last night - lol!

Thanks!

475 will be tougher as you're very near the limits of pump fuel at that point. If response is important then I'd go 35R. Full boost by 3500RPM on a properly setup car makes for an extremely fast road racer.

sounds like im gonna go for the 35R - now just gotta figure out the other details such as what exhaust manifold i wanna use, clearance issue with re mounts, fabbing up a downpipe.

why cant i just skip all the planning and get straight to the building?! lol!

Thanks classicauto!

Getting to 400 (at the wheels) is pretty straight-forward, but once you start to head towards 500, it gets more complex and more expensive.

Stock fuel lines get to be a restriction, and we're talking about going with all new fuel lines.
In fact, your entire fuel system needs to be upgraded.

You sure you need that kinda power?
For a road race vehicle, you'll need really big slicks to put that kinda power to the ground.

i was being delusional for a moment.

had to remind myself what i'll be using the car for.
im going to stick with 350-400hp.

i havent put the re motor in yet, so im not familiar with the exhaust manifold/re mount clearance issue that i've read about.

anybody know where i can locate a manifold for it (t3, correct?)? and any pre-fabbed downpipes for it? or am i gonna have to find someone to do some fabrication for me?

thanks!

Yeah, most of the road racing FC's run about 350 - 400 range.
That should be plenty enough.
Tires get expensive in racing!

The 13B-RE engine (i.e. LIM) has similar clearances as an FC 13BT, so an FC type turbo exhaust manifold should work.
One guy who is trying to use a GReddy turbo is having fitment issues with the HKS cast turbo exhaust manifold - I think that thread was in here?

If you're going T3, then I only heard of one shop making that type of turbo exhaust manifold.
It's like almost $1,000!
You might want to look at the GT35R with the T4 turbine housing for other (i.e. cheaper) turbo exhaust manifold options.
