Question T04 front housing on stock S4 ?

I have a friend that got a T04 turbo off of a coke truck and he took the front housing and turbine off and put it on the stock TII turbo body. My question is... has anybody ever heard of people doing this. By the way everthing seems to bolt right up and the clearances are good. Thanks for any help.

Many Hybrid turbo's use a stock to4b compressor cover.... However.... they also use a different compressor wheel. by slapping a TO4 cover on the compressor, you may be trashing the turbo's ability to build boost... Someone else will probably chime in the the physics of it all soon.

to my understanding you have to machine the housings to fit the t04 wheels... thats strange that it fit right into his stock housings...

This is what a compressor upgrade or hybrid is.
The problem is...just slapping parts together does not guarantee it's balanced.
These things can spin into the 100,000RPM levels.
A tiny imbalance will kill the turbo in weeks.
This is why we leave this kinda stuff to turbo shops to balance properly.
