Synthetic vs Petrolium

Any noticible advantage to using a synthetic as opposed to using a petrolium based motor oil? I run an 87 TII.

Ahhh a local! Hey you gonna run autocross this year? here's the local site.. http://www.wtrscca.org/reese.htm ...

We could sure use another Fc3 in the group. I'll be in ASP class but we all park together. They have some races in Amarillo and Canyon.

Well actually the new thought on both Mobil One and Royal Purple is that flash point is at around 480 F Which is really only about 50F above conventional oils, and the ash content is actually lower than non-paraffin based oils like Castrol or Vavoline.

However most of the other synthetics do have a much higher Flash point and ash content, which would of course be why they are not recommended in Rotaries.

Accually the newer synthetics can burn cleaner than standard oils. And the best part is, they only have lubricating stuff inthem. the naturals have a lot of crap in 'em.
Mobile 1, Redline, Amsoil, are all very high quality oils. I use the Mobile 1 because it is easier to get due to better marketing. but the Amsoil outperfroms all of them and the price reflects it. the least ash, the most slick, and greatest friction reduction. I read an independent test report of the three. they tested wear on bearings and journals. flash point, and such. Amsoil came out on top. in all most every "event" it was twice as good. but failed in price and availbility. mobile one came in second and Redline and very close third. The only redline products I use are the "water wetter" and the sythetic p/s fluid because Valvoline is the only other one and they suck!
