i thought the rx7 vented through one of the nipples on the oil filler neck....people just leave one open

 

That is what I was thinking too. Positive Crank Ventilation.... I don't think we have a Crank.. But, the oil vent is on the filler neck. I have a filter there, mostly because I removed a lot of stuff.

If you do find a PCV Valve, let me know. But, I don't remember my car having one.

 

Another question about your problem.... You say it only happens when you are at a stop light? or any time you try and idle the car? It may be one of the multitude of different idle problems that the RX tends to get after a while.

Search for Idle problems. And, if it only does it when it is at operating temp, look up operating temp idle.
