Lightbulb Sylvania Silverstar Headlight Conversion w/ pics

So I heard these were a pretty good light and they were on sale at Advance Auto Parts for a grand total of $32.00 plus a $5.00 mail in rebate. I decided to post pics of the before and after pics to show the difference. The only bad thing was the fact that I took the pics during the day when I was doing the swap.

Also if anyone knows how to just put these up so you won't have to click on the link, tell me so I can change them. I've already tried uploading them and they're too big.

So far I could tell the difference but the real test will be at night.

I hope I adjusted them right so that they point down the street straight. LOL

oh yeah, it's a perfect oem fit. There was no fabrication what-so-ever to get this at all. In fact, I replaced the original Sylvania's with just upgraded and newer ones. hehe. but you can definitely see the difference.

You'll notice a huge difference at night... I can't stand 'normal' lights anymore. I have them in my '7 and Stealth.

I have those lights. They seem to work quite well in the night, rain, or a combination of the two.

Glad ya got 'er done though.

i have had these lights for a few months now and love them. they give you white light but not BLUE!!!!! WOAH!!!!....i like them because they dont attract cops like HID's on a civic, but they light the road quite well, and they look nice too.

I have them and I love them. They look sick. Aim them at something and get outta your car and just look at the difference. Clear white light. Nothing yellow about them.

Those look decent but are no comparison to a proper H4 blub and lens upgrade. I'll take a pic of my H4 setup one of these days....

Well, technically any modification to increase the brightness of a stock headlight system is illegal in Oregon and probably elsewhere but I definately don't have the "funky" Ebay housings to which I think you are refering. I purchased my housings and H4 bulbs as a set from Procarparts.com back in early '02, a set that is no longer available. I'll take some pics when I get a chance so you can see what I'm talking about. I'm just curious, what is the wattage rating on the Silverstars?

Replacing the stock parts with approved housings is OK in most areas, but those H4 adapter housings are generally not tested or approved for street use.

6054 Silverstars are 60w/70w IIRC... like 5w higher then stock.

Check out sylvania's website - that "clear white" color is just a result of blue tinted glass, like every other cheesy bulb on the market. The tint on the silverstars looks pretty light compared to most bulbs, but still - it's actually BLOCKING light that would normally hit the road in exchange for the "white" color. The blue tint is simply a filter that gets rid of yellow... While it may look nice and bright on a pitch black road, it won't do you any good in foul weather. In fact, the yellow color is preferable in foul weather since it is an easier color for the human eye to notice (this is why many true fog lights are TRULY yellow in color, like lexus).

You may ask why HID's always have that white/blue/purple color and work extremely well...the truth is that HID's are usually throwing TWICE as much actual light on the ground compared to halogens. So even if the tinted halogens mimic the color of HID, it will never be able to match the intensity.

For this owner in particular, it looks like this was an upgrade - but only for the simple reason that his original lights looked old (and halogens just fade over time). He would have been just as well served (if not better in foul weather) by standard replacement sealed housings from a reputable company.

Test of a variety of blue-tinted bulbs vs. OEM standard bulbs:
