Switched Tranny's Help needed...

I have an 87 RX-7 that before this weekend had automatic transmission in it. I just dropped in a 5 speed tranny installed a new flywheel, starter, pressure plate, engine wiring harness, pedal kit, and numerous other things to get this to go. Everything seems okay now except: I can’t get the starter to engage. Now I am wondering if there is a wiring setup for the clutch switch on the inside of an automatic’s wiring setup? Also is it a neutral safety switch issue? Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

Thank You

Robert P.

I did this on a 91 car. The neutral safety switch on my car is different than yours but the procedure should work. Put your Auto Trans in Neutral. Using a volt meter, find the two pins on the Neutral Safety switch connector(on the trans) that have continuity. Now find the mating connector on the wiring harness on the car and short the same two pins. Starter should engage when you turn the key.

I'll check my manual tonite to see what the appropriate pins are on your car.

I have tested the starter by using a manual bypass it is fine, when I put the ignition to the start position ... nothing no sound, no movement. I read a wiring diogram that shows a clutch switch ... I have the switch with the new pedal setup but I see no plugs that appear to fit it, and no wires that match the diogram color codes ... any ideas"?

Well, I have 2 problems with that ... The engine wiring harness has been changed to one that is for a manual tranny (I was told I had to do that) also .. like a dip$hit I already dumped the auto tranny (was taking up garage floor space If you can can find the wires I need to short that would be great.

Thank You

I just got through a few months ago doing a auto to manual sawp to. It took me a while to get the wiring right, well it still isn't all right, but I will post a diagram and pics when I get a chance. Probably later today after I get my son from school.

Ahh, this is killing me ... my understanding now is that: the inhibitor switch is a part on the auto tranny. All I need to do is find a "hot" wire that is only hot in the start position and I will wire that directly to the siloniod ... any Idea where I might pick that up from? I am so close I can taste it!

the hot wire is the black w/red strip wire running from the ignition switch, its the only one on its plug!!

tap into this one and u should be set to go...

the wire should come off of the trigger switch to the Black/red wire!
