WA Swapped motor wont start... any ideas?

Have a 89 Gxl that a S5 t2 was swapped into... had the wiring done up at a shop so I know its good... After getting everything hooked up and putting in a battery the car just wont turn over... no starter turning at all... dont even hear the electrical "click" like its even getting juice... took off the starter and bench tested it and it worked just fine... any common problems anyone can think of why the starter wont turn over? Advice would be much appreciated. If not then I will just start tracing wires from the ignition to see if maybe theres some obscure in-line fuse or switch or something thats not grounded somewhere or something. Was just hoping not to have to start from scratch if anyone had any good places to start looking first... thank you in advance for any help provided.

Look at your fuses. Is your battery any good?

Do the lights in the car work? Does your horn work?

Spec.

Check the battery terminals, check all of the engine bay fuses.

Sorry... forgot to mention that all fuses are good and just to be sure we had power we were jumping the car and using a battery... the interior lights and the accessories and headlights all worked... just wouldnt crank. All interior fuses and engine bay fuses are all good... the 7.5 "room" fuse was blown when we started to try cranking it but we replaced it and it didnt blow again... my guess is I am going to have to start tearing apart my wiring loom to see if anything is goofy... was just hoping to avoid that
