I have JIC-magic FLT-TAR coilovers, but they're a bit pricey.

I'd probably recommend getting the racingbeat suspension package (springs and swaybars) with koni yellow shocks.

Bilstien, Penske, Koni

If you just want to lower your car than spend the as little as possible because it wont matter.

If you just want looks (drop), then get one of the shiny over-priced Japanese brands (TEIN, JIC, etc.) so you can impress everybody at car shows. There is no point in embarrassing yourself by installing top-end performance parts that do not have a big name in the import car tuner magazines.

Agree, with the addition of JRZ dampers, although they do not qualify for the "decent price" stipulation from the OP.

Wow, such ignorance. Have you ever used these products? Do you even know anything about them? Well I have (Tein Flex), and I do (I've seen shock dynos, read many reviews, driven another Flex equipped car, tracked, autocrossed and daily driven my car with Flexes). Tein Flex is highly regarded as an excellent entry level coilover for street/track whose shocks are comparable to Koni yellows and when you compare the price to Koni yellows, GC coilovers and camber plates, they're competetively priced plus you get the extra features of seperate shock body adjustments independant of spring pre-load and solid rear mounts. I can attest that they feel darned good on track and at autocross. Sure it's not a JRZ, but it costs much, much less.

I would agree though that it would seem that coilovers are complete overkill here, and that something like the RB springs would be a better setup.

I have absoluetly not used any of the TEIN products, nor have I used any of the Chinese/Mexican Ebay suspension products. Please correct my ignorance by telling me which top end race cars (IRL, ALMS, etc.) use TEIN products to beat cars using Bilstein, Penske, Koni, or JRZ products.

Ummmm, I don't think the original question was about beating top end race teams. Your comment is irrelevant, at best. Try and pay attention.

That comment was in response to the comment by Black91n/a. If you think his comment was irrelevant, then you may have a point.

If you were to pay attention, you would see my comments related to the original question in my first post.

Bilstein and Penske are the best in the shock world, but bagging on Tein and JIC......tsk tsk.

Did I ever claim that they were the best? No. I simply said that they're a very good entry level product, that means that they provide decent damping, have good quality, good servicability, good durability, good features, good spring rates and are reasonably priced.

Your comments have some merrit in that Tein isn't really used in many top level cars (it is used by some in Japan I think), but then again NONE of the top end stuff from any of those companies you listed even comes close in price to what something like a Tein Flex goes for, and realistically, they won't give you much if any more speed in the hands of an average driver. Koni Yellows for instance are different and inferior to what they use in F1, ALMS, Grand-Am, etc. The only thing that'd come close is some custom valved Bilsteins, which, along with the necessary hardware would still end up being significantly more expensive while being non-adjustable. All of the top level systems would also not be able to withstand the rigors of street driving nearly as well either, as they're designed to be rebuilt every year or so, and that'd get tiring (not to mention expensive) real fast for a street car.

Remember, we're talking about ENTRY LEVEL stuff here, not pro level best of the best stuff. Yes the OP said best, but he also said for a decent price.

So no they're not the best, but they're as good as or better than anything that you can get for comperable money, therefore they're a good value.

i have tein superdrift, very stiff compared to my tein flexes even on softest setting, recommend more for track use than street driving, unless your roads are decent. Similar design to flexes, only spring rates and dampening look different. Never had any problems with them and quality is number, no doubt. Highly recommend them

Reading comprehension test:

In the very first sentence posted by Evil Aviator in this thread:
A) He started talking about race cars.
B) He recommended TEIN to the original poster.
C) He posted pictures of two of TEIN's top engineers.
D) He called another forum member ignorant.

use the search button, anything you can think of about suspension has most likely been covered. Good luck!

Id actually rather get Ground control coilovers with Koni, or Bilstein shocks, then getting a full on coil over from the companies people mentioned before.

For the price of a set of GC, theres non better.

While that's a good setup, you MUST get the Bilsteins re-valved if you want decent performance, since they're tuned for the factory spring rates, and the types of rates you get with GC coilovers are 2-3x as stiff. It also lacks a key feature of some of the all in one coilovers like Tein Flexes where the shock body is adjustable, which allows you to maximize travel for any given ride height so that you're not bottoming the suspension prematurely or so that you're not running out of droop travel or something like that. While this isn't always an issue, it's one less tool you have to maximize your setup.
