Suspension Questions

I am about to purchase a set of lowering springs and I would like to get some opinions from you guys. I'm looking at Eibach, Suspension Techniques and Racing Beat. I like the Eibach's but I'm not sure about the progressive rate. I think they might not give me the ride that I want. Mazdatrix shows spring rates, and they list Eibach's rates (they have a range because of the progressive rate) 70/185 for the front and 85/165 for the rear. Stock spring rate is 95 front and 90 rear. Suspension Techniques (not progressive) 120 front and 120 rear. Racing Beat (not progressive) 130 front and 80 rear. My car is a daily driver but I don’t mind a rough ride. I like to auto cross so that’s why I was concerned about Eibach's progressive rates (the low range is lower than stock). Maybe you guys might know of another spring that might be better. Help me.......lol

Also I am going to buy Urethane bushing kit from Nopi.com the kit is made by PROTHANE price $63.10 has anybody use these or should I get the Energy Suspension kit off of ebay???

Thanks guys

I just put the Energy Suspension kit on my '87. It looks nice, but everything else went wrong, and I havn't been able to take it out and drive it. Changing the bushings on the sway bar links is a bitch, because they're molded in place. Otherwise, it went smoothly.

As far as the springs, I'm in the same boat. Still deciding. Are there any opinions on the Intrax, Tanabe GF-210, or Tien S-tech springs? I'm just setting up for a spirited daily driver.

Thanks,

Come on guys I was expecting some good feed back on this one. I guess nobody is running with Eibach, Suspension Techniques or Racing Beat lowering springs. This club is crazy! Sometimes you ask a good technical question and get nothing. Then sometimes somebody will post a thread asking how does this Boeing 747 wing look on my car and you will get 5 pages of replies.

eibach is good for a moderate drop. the increased spring rate in the rear will make the car less understeer-ey. if you want low, get ground control, but youll need a camber kit.
also, replacing bushings is always a good idea. you may also want to look into DSS eliminator bushings.

I used the pro thane bushings and all went in ok except the rear control arms wouldn't even begin to fit. I'm using Tanabe springs but don't have it on the road yet.

Eibach to me gives a nice stance without putting it to low to the road. I also think the ride it gives isn't all to bad. So my experience with Eibach wasn't all to bad.

I have the Eibachs. They are nice, and I dont notice the progressive nature of the srping too much. Its there, but the softness goes away as soon as you lean the car a little bit.

I've heard good things about the Eibach springs on the street. I've been considering them myself.

I've heard some people are not to keen on them for autox, however.

I have also been considering the bushing kits. I will be watching this thread.

i know this may not be the most useful since my expeince is limited to mr2s. my friend has the st for his mk1 and can still beat every mk2 in the norcal moc on a twisty road. i also heard the apexx springs are good for handling but possibly a little harsh. i would also consider how much side wall you have and what kind of drop you want also how much dampening your struts provide. i found my friend's set up to be very street able he runs 50 series tires tokico hp struts which ate illuminas set at 3 dampen and 5 rebound with the st springs. we drive on mostly crummy roads (yeah norcal!). but some people on the boards say this set up is too stiff. i hope this is of some use to you.

I've got the Eibach turbo springs with Tokico HP struts on 17" wheels on a daily driver (no auto X) and the car handles great. I can get pretty agressive in a curve and I haven't slid out of one yet. It will lower the car a little but not much.

Do a search for progressive vs. linear to get some more opinions. I think I did a thread poll about that a while back.
