surgning idle/dies sometimes.
hey i've done a search and junk and can't seem to find the same problem i'm having. ok i have an 86 n/a. i recently took the throttle body off to clean it. The tps fell off at this point due toa corroded holding strap. i didn't realize this till later. anyways i cleaned it and did a very slight port job on the back side of the tb. anyways. when i put the tb back on the car started and did all right at fisrt then it pretty much died. then i remembered that my tps wasn't hooked up. i have the tps held on by zip ties but it's sturdy and doesn't have play. anyways i plugged the tps back in and the idle now surges a bit. and sometimes when i start it it will surge horribly and wont rev past 1500. then i play with some wires and junk and it will rev fine but the idle is still a little rough. If you need any more info just ask. i would really appreciate the help. thanks guys.

You can search the forum for a pretty detailed guide, basically you use a DMM and check the bottom pin (flat compared to the other two) and one of the sides of the top two (right I believe when the flat pin is down) when either set on Ohm's or volts (if using ohm, make sure it's disconnected before attempting this!) If it's volts, just make sure the ignition is in the 'ON' position. Adjust to 1.00volt (or as near as you can get) then turn the throttle assembly to WOT then let it snap closed and check again. It should be around 1v (or if you use the ohm method, 1K ohm) Reconnect and try again. Use the screw to adjust the level.
