Supercharger Question

Sorry, I tried to do a search, but for some reason my PC at work won't load the search page!! (Dern PC)

Anyways, are there any superchargers out there that will just strap on to a 13b that's fuel injected?? Or if I want to go the SC route, will I have to switch to a carb setup??

Thanks,
Jeff

Try Paxton SC
or Vortec.

Dont exceed 4-5lbs of boost, and even then a stock engine could blow.

If you are lacking power, and your car is old, then set it back to stock.
I mean "do the hard thing" first and check your 6ports, and get all parts back to original working order.

Check your compression.

9 times out of 10, if I secretly replaced a old worn rotary with a new fresh rebuild, then the owner could almost think I supercharged it.

These non-turbos are strong, but you could also check out the 180HP engine at:

www.revolutionrotary.com

Its a BLAST!

Gimpdiggity,

Having a supercharged Turbo II or NA rx7 is definitly sweet. Big props to low end torque and instant boost - makes a sweet ride.

Some more pages to check out:

http://www.geocities.com/boatseason/

http://www.atkinsrotary.com/supercha.htm

http://www.superchargersonline.com/

Of course as with any boosted car you want to plan out fuel delivery and air/fuel mixture. Slapping a supercharger on with the OEM fuel maps & computer can be very tricky. I'm planning something similar with a convertible and I want to research a) the different types of superchargers (intercooled vs air/air is only 1 factor) b) how much boost I want to push c) preventing "overspin" of the supercharger as these cars do have a 7K or 8K rmp readline and d) which aftermarket ecu is best to use.

I think the end result however will be great

Several thousands of dollars...

I'd rather get a Turbo II for that kinda money.

I wish i had the money for a T2
But besides the point of ME! A guy who is a rotorhead around here is supercharging his GXL spec N/A. Whipple type, from atkins I believe. I can't wait to get a ride in that machine.

RETed,

I need to ride in a supercharged TII and/or NA.

My convertible project is mixing the TII drivetrain/engine with a supercharger. I like how road runner describes the setup on his NA. Now imagine having the TII exhaust & intake combined with the supercharger instead:

from http://www.geocities.com/boatseason/supercharger.html

I love it!!! A normally aspirated rotary builds it's horsepower when it revs, but with the supercharger its a totally different beast. The increase in low end torque is great, and the mid-range power is a rush. Throttle response is also improved, its much crisper now. When the six-ports open up, you can actually feel a rush of power. Got some jerk tailgating you? No problem. Drop it down a gear, floor it, and you... are... GONE!!!

The supercharger has made my 30 mile commute to work much more enjoyable, although I've got to be careful when stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. When the clutch engages, she just wants to go. And of course, I always get my choice of lanes pulling out of tollbooths. Hahahahahaha!!!! Last but not least, I was worried about gas mileage. But if I keep my right foot out of it, I can still get around 22mpg. By the way, I passed emissions testing way back in May.

I've regularly come across Turbo II's for $2k or less.&nbsp The Paxton is going to cost you over $3k easily minus labor.&nbsp There is a limit on how much boost an SC can do to an NA engine - under 300hp.&nbsp Sure the SC is going to get your more bottom end power, but it's really moot if you've ever been in a mildly modifed Turbo II.

I really can't see spending the money on an SC, when a lot of the (NA) parts are on the verge of breaking.&nbsp I know you've mentioned your mix of NA and turbo parts, but the most important component is the engine - unless you're starting out with a Turbo II engine, there's a limitation on boost.

Now, if you're stuffing a Turbo II drivetrain and engine into an NA, I'll call you crazy.

yep - the mildly modifed Turbo II is my weekender, but I'd like to have a supercharged boosted daily that has better low end torque for that stop'n'go traffic and some good pickup without boost creep. - So why not a turbo II convertible (minus the turbo) that's supercharged

It's different - and cool

Hard part is finding a smashed/burnt TII (don't want to strip a good one). Where the @#$*#( do junk yards & parts places find there's?

Actually - I think paxton has either 6.5 or 15 PSI superchargers according to their site. It's all in the pully gearing apparently.
