SuperCharger Install Questions

Hey, I'm fairly new to this forum. I just picked up an '86 Rx-7 GT, and its got 40,000klm on a rebuilt motor. I've made a custom straight pipe that goes from the collector to the splitter to bypass 3 of the 4 cats. I'm looking at installing a super charger fairly soon and I was curious on the type of super charger I should be looking for, what type of pressure the super charger should be pushing out, and if there are any other types of mods that need to be done (EI install turbo model tranny, power steering re-location...etc) If anyone's got any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. You can also email me at 'robfeatherstone@shaw.ca' thanks.

Only supercharger available on the market right is the Paxton Super Charger. But its not fuel injected
goto www.atkinsrotary.com

Another superchage prodocued was the Paxton supercharger which is fuel injected. They no longer produce them but I've heard rumors from Mariah Motorsports have some lying around for sale.

Check the For Sale section, people have been selling superchargers lately.

atkins is suppose to be offering a fuel injected & intercooled version of their new 7" supercharger. Call & ask them about it.

Update (09/20/02): Since Nelson closed up shop, and Mariah hasn't done a production run of the kit, there hasn't been a way to add a Paxton supercharger to your normally aspirated RX-7 until now! Black-Clawson can now reproduce the main bracket and the thermostat housing. You can contact Ron Bowering of Black-Clawson at 315-598-7121. All of the other parts are available through vendors, I've put together an Excel spreadsheet (might need to right-click the link and "Save As") with contact numbers and a rough price list. There's also a page of pics to help you out.

Update (10/27/02): And what if you don't want to assemble your own supercharger kit? Well you can buy my setup! Since I've picked up another project ('65 Ford Fairlane) and some new toys ('02 Mazda Miata and '02 Suzuki Savage), I'm putting the RX-7 up for sale! I'm asking $4000 or best offer, you can check out the rest of the website to see all the mods I've made. I'm also including the original storage bins along with the rear seats that I installed, and a hardcopy of the factory service manual. You can email me with any questions.

with a supercharger, wouldn't the increase of low end torque reduce the need to rev the engine up to 7800 rpm?

A buddy of mine rebuilds superchargers, and has one setup right now for me, he knows its an '86 Rx-7 with the 13B engine in it, and apparently he's sold a couple to some guys for the same setup. So I'm going to try what he's got, not to mention the super sweet deal he's scoring it to me for ($500CA rebuilt). I'm planning on installing an A/C clutch to the front of it, and then have a positive pressure valve in it somewhere. That way I can engage the super charger when I want to, instead of having the constant pressure and the posibility of blowing seals.

The point of a supercharger is to make power all the way to what ever given point (revlimit fuel cut.)
This kit that was made had to be modified just so the supercharger could rev to 7000. (they used a different pulley otherwise the supercharger would overrev) Im an S4 guy (7800revlimit), the S5 people couldnt even redline their car with that kit
Now maybe its the fact its a roots charger but the integra type R jackson racing supercharger revs to 8900 easily, no problems whatsoever.
Any questions?

thats going to have to be one hell of an A/C clutch... you know it take a couple of HP to run the supercharger? Doesnt some1 make clutches designed for superchargers?

Yup I have 4 cats....it is sick and I am guessing that all 4 are more than clogged. I have a precat then a larger cat and then on each pipe after the y split I have a cat.......1+1+2=4. They will all be replaced with a single straight pip.e soon and I fully expect to see some huge performance increase. C bought my 88 GTU N/A from a guy in MI who got it from a relative in Canada I believe.
