alright guys i have an 87 gxl and was concidering a supercharger. does any have any feedback on them (pro's and con's) any info would help

 

I don't think it would be a good idea to supercharge a n/a engine. Same reason why you wouldn't want to turbo charge a n/a engine.

 

You know, I see a lot of people saying it's a bad idea but then I turn around and see a lot of people doing it without a problem...

 

search for threads on this, there are many diff superchargers that people have installed and im sure they have the results posted.

 

does anyone have any sites (other than atkins) with a supercharger kit?

Honestly you'd either have to do it yourself or buy a Camden.

Camden pros are the tech support and relative ease of installation. But from what I have gathered its easier to run with a carb. Which hurts gas mileage and you go back in time in technology. Also fine tuning wouldn't be as easy.

Also the kit tends to run hot since it runs without an intercooler, raising ntake temps, which then can hurt performance as you go to a bigger pulley set.

And people aren't all getting the dyno numbers expected.

 

Paxton kit if you could find it is ok.

Camden tech support is NOT a pro. It is a MAJOR reason not to get it. Just read CODE BLUE's threads, lol.

the camden is old technology, look into the eaton twin screw superchargers, they are more effecient at compressing the air. you can also pipe an intercooler.

from what i have gathered, camden sucks ***.

personally id go with megasquirt and a whippple+front mount

The m90 isn't a twin-screw. Also, you do NOT want to use an M90. The m90 sucks major *** on the FC.

Custom. The Camden unit just flat out sucks. If you can find a paxton kit, they work fairly well. Otherwise, use a whipple twin-screw.

Ha, yes, that I am! Too. I hope to be back in Oregon in a few weeks for a visit, probably no time to do anything. However to answer some questions. Camden has the charger with the carb that doesnt get the great numbers expected but goes on with ease. They also make a kit for the FI which is pricey and will only yeild about another 60 or so horse, and this is somewhat debated. Using and m90 from what Rat says sucks, and a few others because of efficiency. I would look at the whipple twin screw from the Mazda millenia and everything has to be custom fabbed. Keep an eye on 88Ls progress and we will see what happens.

 

Dude, the only issue with turbo-ing an Na is the manifold, having to tap oil into the charge, and having the computer to control it, nothing really wrong with the block itself. If you had to rig up a supercharger on a 13Bt it would be just as much a PITA if not more.
