sunroof replacement panel.
OK, as we all know the sunroof is horrible as far as weight distribution goes. Now I was wondering if this might work:
-remove the stock metal sunroof 'lid' and all mechanical bits (excluding the track and the locking mechanism (if there is one... don't have my FSM with me)
-recreate the metal sunroof in carbon fiber or fiber glass (lighter than the equivalent panel of metal
)
-remount the sunroof on existing hardware, excluding the motor and etc.
-operate the sunroof manually.
I assume this would be lighter than a solid roof RX-7, because the replacement panel would be lighter than a metal panel of equal size (as in the metal removed to install the sunroof in the first place...)
Any thoughts?

I've seen them weld the panel on before. You could do it from underneath and just fill in the cracks with bodyfiller.
Now on replacing the panel itself with cf, you'd probably need to build a new subframe.

new subframe for the panel?
I was planning on building it to mount onto the existing sliders used in the metal sunroof, so that it would still operate as a sunroof, just be lighter than the actual sunroof (and maybe get me some headroom too
