Sunroof problem

I recently took out my entire sunroof assembly, got it cleaned and lubed.

The problem is that it still does not act like it should, when sliding it back it opens about 2 inches then stops, I have to press the button again to get it fully opened.
Once all the way back it stops when the endswitch is activated. This is no big deal.

What really bothers me is that when I try to close it it will slide forward, but really slow and eventually stop, usually just before it starts to go down. From there it needs a push to get it to close.

Any idea is more than welcome as it is starting to get really hot overhere.

BTW is it possible to route the powerwires to a "stronger" source as we do with the fuelpump???

Thanks in advance

I do believe they are designed to stop when it is just raised, and to slide it open you have to push the switch again, mine does the same.

I hate the damn sunroof! Mine jammed up so badly that it was literally unfixable. Some part of the mechanism bound up and just would not unlock regardless of hours of trying. So my sunroof now sits in the trash and I'm having a tinted lexan one laser cut. The whole moving assembly wont be there, so I guess its more of a moonroof. Should look nice on the black TII though.

Clean and adjust the driver, er, I mean sunroof!

The 2 step opening sounds normal, as mentioned on the first button push it is supposed to raise up at the back and stop when opened from fully closed. The second button push continues the opening sequence as far as you want to take it until fully open.

Closing though, hmmm, sounds like it is need of lubrication. The best bet is to use the search function, cleaning and lubrication of the second generation sunroof gets a LOT of press in this forum, especially as the temperature of both the air and the driver begin to rise!

The closing bind may be due to the two plastic gear tapes being out alignment.
If they are a tooth or two out of sync, it will pull open OK (in 2 steps), but bind when pushing closed.

Maybe one or both of the cords in the sliding mechanism are strained.

Does it go "click---click---click" when trying to open it, that would be the gears not grabbing the cord like it should. Mine did that before I replaced it

SureShot: Can you see these 'gear tapes' while the roof is in? Mine clicks on opening...

Mine clicks as well maybe they need alignment or replacing?

I pulled mine out to (in '98) service it, but you may be able to access it by just pulling the headliner.
I don't remember if you can remove the motor with the roof assembly still mounted.
