sunroof is broken.

the sunroof on my 87 tii won't open. i'm trying to get it fixed by spring. the motor turns but i think the gearing isn't. has this happened to anyone else?

this is a common problem. take an alen wrench and hand crank that thing open through the spindle in the roof. once its open, clean the gunk off the rails and work an buch of wd-40 into them. this should fix it, at least for a while. just gota keep those rails clean and lubed.

i had the same problem last year and did exactly wut was said above. But wut can i lubricate the rails with?

A thin film of a silicon based grease works great for the rails. The problem though is that will all the extra work the motor was doing with packing all the garbage into the corner of the bracket, your motor may be a little weak and it may not last too long.

or one of your rails is completly rusted to dust like mine... in that case... save the weight and shave the sunroof .. hahaha!!
