sunroof arm busted

For the last few weeks i've been dicking with my sunroof off and on, because it didnt work for awhile, then when i got it working it wouldnt close properly. So anyways i took it off again the other day, and the middle arm on the passenger side that connects the sunroof to the track snapped in half. Its made of some kind of very weak porous metal, that for some reason no adhesive will bond to. I've tried JB weld, 2 ton epoxy, and ordinary super glue, and none of these will adhere to it properly.
My first question would be, does anyone have any ideas on how i could fix this?
My second question would be does anyone know what sort of metal those arms are? I have an aluminum welder, but i dont beleive that theyre aluminim, simply by the lack of strenth and how porous it is. Anyways, if anyone could provide any info it would be greatly appreciated.

i wish duct tape would work, but the part is kinda important to my runroof not flying off, so i think i'll need something a bit stronger.

Is it potmetal. My drivers side handle broke and I was told it cannot be welded and replace it. Hope this helps.

I have a similar problem, have yet to try and fix it.

I'm just leaving my roof closed.

I'm thinking about just getting a pop up replacement.

Not to long ago, someone on this forum fab'd a neat 'smoke' roof made of some really strong plastic that was considered 'bulletproof', but I can't remember the name of it or the guy; I think he actually sold it as a kit...you may want to search for it and see where it mounts.

Sorry break man, I hate having my roof broken...especially w/ summer comming up.

I had and have the same problem on two of my 7's. I took the piece out and fab'd a new one out of aluminum, painted it. As far as the bullet proof stuff, my guess is Lexan polycarbonate. Bulletproof, yeah, but if it does not have the hard coat it could be easily broken with a spray of carb cleaner-it weakens the molecular chains of the PC.
