Sun roof actin' a fool

So... my sunroof decided to go ahead and refuse to open. It's been doing this for a long time, so it's not a one time deal. I'm not sure if the motor's blown or if it's off-track or what. Sigh. Anyone know how to fix these things? I've heard it's one of the curses of the rx7, along with the fan belt and the shocks for the hatch... lol.

Any ideas would be great...

Thanks

a few things i have noticed with my sun roof are low voltage to the motor and 20 years of dirt working its way in to the tracks.
you can try to lube the track
and check voltage to the motor. if it is low then rewire.
it could be your motor but i have not seen a bad one yet

Do a search for Sunroof removal or sunroof repair. There's a bunch of stuff on it. The tracks usually get full of gunk, or there's an issue with the motor. The best option is to take the whole thing out and clean everything. Does it even move with the manual option?

Think this is what your after:

can u hear the motor whine if u try to open or close it??

if u can, then its probably just all the junk sitting on the rails.
when i first got mine, it wouldn't open at all but i could hear the motor working.
what i did was there is a little plastic button cover behind the sunroof from the inside. take that off and use a crank bar, mine was in my boxes. and manually open it.

first i took some wd-40 and spray all the rails (it was like pure black never seen anything like that) then let it sit for 10 minutes. wipe it clean, and repeat until u see metal. then i used some lube oil and oiled the rails. and then just plug your key in turn on the power and hope it works!

My sunroof used to open slowly, but I had to pop it up. I tried manually but it hard to turn it. Now it opens super slow. Could this be just dirt in tracks?

Yeah. whats with RX-7 sunroofs getting weak where you have to give it a little lift for it up get up before sliding back?

Mine works just fine and sometimes even opens on its own, and then there are sometimes where i have to help it get up.

Mine opens on its own 1/2 the time and needs a quick push the other 1/2. I haven't cleaned it thoroughly though. The motor seems to work just fine (only thing on my car that does).

Although I'm not sure how a sunroof could be "actin' a fool" (... kill me please...), I would suggest cleaning it.

Mine won't open, but it is from a small piece that broke, it is a small plastic piece that is arched and looks like it is there to guide the sun roof up, it jammed up one night and then snapped.

Today I started my car and pressed the sunroof open button and nothing. I shut the car off then turned it back on and it worked. What gives...?
