Substitute 80amp Fuse Wire?

'87/GXL

Can someone who definitely knows, confirm the gauge size for two black wire(s) that run from the 80 amp fuse and routes back to the alternator and positive battery terminal? Both look closer to 8 gauge, if yes, what's an appropriate substitute gauge?

Put the same size on. If you can't get the same size, lager will not hurt, where as smaller could. If it's already going to a fuse.. a little larger will not hurt a thing.

The next larger size would be 6 gauge, which looks way too big and I don't want to fry the electrical system

If you have a fuse there you cant fry anything. Just pic a bigger wire, and use the stock fuse. good luck. Ifyou need more room you could always relocate the fuse out of that tiny box.

Well guys, I'm back after changing the 8 gauge wires to 6. While removing the old alternator wires from the 80 amp fuse, there's a black/yellow wire (approx 9 gauge) soldered into it. Does anybody know what the b/y wire is for and is it safe to solder it as is, into the new 6 gauge wire? Please don't recommend wiring diagrams, I've already stared at them all day! Advance thanks for help

<sigh> C'mon folks, somebody is bound to know the wires in question, especially if the (S4) charging system has been upgraded with bigger wires Now that I'm thinking, it's probably ok to solder into the new wire, since the circuit is protected by the 80amp fuse. On a positive note, this has been one heck of a learning experience!
