Stuck apex seal

Hey guys i bought a motor for my turbo 2 in feburary. The motor ran and drove well before we pulled it out of the car to put in mine. The motor has been sitting for 3 months now and i try and spin it by hand everyday just to make sure its all good still. The other day i went to spin it and now i only get 2 wooshes instead of three is it possible that my apex seals could be stuck after only sitting for 3 months?

yes, because you forgot one critical component.. internal lubrication.

rotating an engine doesn't mean anything if the carbon inside the engine is dry, rotating a dry engine just begs for sticking the seals.

you can install it and see if it fires, if not just pull start it. in the meantime put a few ounces of MMO in each chamber and rotate it a few more times.

well see this issue is the car still isnt done. the motor is in the car but the wiring is not done so it wont start for a few more months. Could i unstick it by putting mmo in it and just hand turn it?

now that it's stuck it probably won't unstick without some high speed cranking and MMO to loosen it up.

ok well this may sound like a stupid question but when i spin the front pulley by hand on one full rotation i got 2 strong wooshes and one not so strong. does that equal a stuck apex seal?

Also ive heard seafoam works good for unsticking them. How would i use it though for a not running motor becuase i know your supposed to mix it in your tank or suck it in through a vaccum line

I had an engine, that had sat for over a year, and had the same problem. It had rust build up inside the engine, so I tried to squirt some oil into the housing, to try and free it up, but ended up wiping out the Apex seals on the rear rotor.

This happened to me after my motor sat for a couple months.
I tried mmo, atf, and pb blaster and lots of starter cranking to no avail.
I just had a friend come over and we pull started it with a rope .
Just drag it around the block and get a few k rpms and it'll probably fire.
Until you do that id Keep it internationally lubricated though to keep it from getting worse.

I have been i just soaked the motor in mmo for 8 hours and now im getting a solid puff for each side of all the rotors so apparently mmo really does the trick im gonna keep soaking it though just to make sure everything is all good

Try squirting the thickest gear oil you can find inside the plug holes. It will fill in the compression gap between the stuck seal and housing. It worked for me on an engine with multiple stuck seals. After the initial start up it's up to fate whether or not it will stay unstuck.

Also remove the exhaust and massage Seafoam and carb cleaner onto the seals with your finger.

Expect lots of smoke and backfires if it starts!

ok ive had this issue before on motors and what i have done is spray pb blaster on the apex seals. ive never damaged a motor doin this. but u never kno its a chance i took. now if the motor is out and u can take the exhaust mani out spray all the apex seals down with pb blaster. soak em and rotate the motor after all six faces have been hit. not only with it remove all the carbon but it will loosen everthing up. the current motor i did it on is my own t2 motor had a stuck apex when i purchased it guy thought it was blown. his lose. but shes a champ now. 98 psi on all faces boostin 15psi like nothing,. hopes this helps

PB Blaster is bad for the oil control rings.
