Streetporting, how?

Ok, I've been told I when I get my car if Im looking for more power, I should s treeport it myself. But the deal is, I have NO idea how, I have no idea what it should look like, how much I should do it, and the like. IS there any "beginners guide to streeporting" or something of the like? Or should I not even try it? Well thanks all, I tried searching before, but I couldnt find an answer. Thanks.

Considering a streetport involves totally tearing down the motor, it's probably not for you . You literally grind out the intake and exhaust ports to make them bigger, but you can't do it without totally rebuilding the motor.

If you want more power, start with bolt-ons - intake, exhaust, etc.

I understand it would involve a total rebuild, but I was curious on how MUCh to grind off, any angles? just honing or actual grinding? Also how hard would it be to rebuild the rotary? I tore down my 4 cylinder mustang engine and replaced the head gasket back in february. Would it be much more difficult than that? Im afraid of doing a sloppy job and having it not run quite right when Im done. Well, ya, but I want to try it, if you all think I could. Also, with exhaust, intake, ecu and a few other base mods, how fast could I hit WITHOUT streetporting? Thanks tons! Im totally psyched to get my 7

4 cyl stang OMFG

Mazdatrix and Racing beat sell porting templates. Basically making it cake if you have the time, and patience to learn. I don't know how but I would assume with templates it becomes much simpler.

Why the hell you think Im buying an rx? lol. IT's slow as ***. I hate the thing. I just wasted the clutch on it to. Would an rx be reliable as a daily driver? How does it handle poor weather driving? Thanks again...;-)

My N/a is somewhat reliable. Only two or three majore things needed to be replaced. and the longest one was the oil cooler lines which took about 1 week to get here and two days to put on.

The templates don't make streetporting cake IMO. The template just shows you how the outlet is shaped in 2D. A streetport involves porting the intake in 3d and takes some practice and about 2-3hrs per port. I recommend just getting some junk housings and practicing on them. Carbide bits are a must as well.

I didn't say that they are not a good place to start - they are. It's just that I have seen a lot of people that think that templates is all you need and you're set. I suggest going to the n0pistons forum and look under rotary building section. In there, they have a sticky entiled rotary porting, its about 17 or 18 pages long and very informative.
